Net Income in 2007 surpassed 111 million Euros, 40% higher than in 2006
• Only in Catalonia Uniland invested almost 5 million Euros in environmental improvements
Barcelona, 13th May 2008. Uniland’s turnover reached in 2007 646,1 million Euros, which represents an increase of 13,4% compared to the previous year, as per the announcement made today during the General Shareholders Meeting in Barcelona.
Attributable Net income is 111,4 M€, 39,7 % above 2006 results.
This increase is due to the sales price increase, mostly in Spain, but also in the other countries where this company of Portland Valderrivas Group is operating.
Uniland is the first company in its sector in Catalonia that has a strong international presence. Since summer 2006 most of its capital pertains to Cementos Portland Valderrivas, subsidiary on its turn of FCC, company with headquarters in Barcelona, where it was founded in 1900.
-In Catalonia Uniland owns two cement plants (Els Monjos and Vallcarca), 27 concrete plants, seven aggregates plants and eight quarries.
- One cement plant, four concrete plants and one quarry in Tunisia.
- In Latin America Uniland owns in Argentina two cement plants, six concrete plants and two quarries, and in Uruguay one cement plant, four concrete plants and one quarry.
- Its overseas facilities include a cement terminal in the state of Louisiana (USA) and another one in Ipswich (Great Britain), as well as a subsidiary company specialized in trading, with headquarters in The Netherlands, thus completing the international assets of the Catalan company.
Of the total turnover, 70% has been generated in Spain; 12% in Tunisia; 9% in Argentina; 3% in Uruguay and the remaining 6% in other countries where the Group is operating at present.
The 2007 Operating Net Income (EBITDA) reached the figure of 203,5 million Euros, and this represents an increase of 24,7% compared to the previous year. This EBITDA rise is basically generated in Spain, and to a lesser extent in Tunisia.
The number of persons working for the companies participated by the UNILAND Group by 31 December 2007 is 1.684 (including 50% of the staff in Argentina and Uruguay), versus 1.639 persons by the end of 2006. This increase originates mainly from Spain and Argentina.
Environmental Improvements
Uniland invested in 2007 only in its facilities in Catalonia 14,7 million Euros, out of which 4,9 million were destined to environmental improvements. Its investments for this year 2008 will reach 12 million Euros, out of which 3,17 million will also be destined to ensuring the production systems for environmental improvement.
